Awards night for the construction youth trust

Young people from Little Venice and Paddington recently received an award for all their hard work over the year.

The youths have been attending a programme of construction taster sessions, funded by CityWest Homes and Westminster Community Homes. The programme, delivered by the Construction Youth Trust, has been teaching them the basics of plumbing, tiling and health and training. These sessions can now lead to them joining the Construction Skills Certificate Scheme or gaining work in the construction industry.

George Dunstall, project assistant from the Construction Youth Trust said: “We are very happy with the way the trainees have conducted themselves. Some of them have proved to be very skilful and have the potential to do well in the building industry.”

Five young men have regularly attended the sessions at the Millennium Centre, supported by youth worker Julie Ann Gayle from the Working with Men youth project. Following this programme, two of the young men will now take up work placements with CityWest Homes’ handymen team to further improve their skills and experience.

If you’d like further information on the project, please contact Mike Wilson, neighbourhood projects coordinator, CityWest Homes on 020 7245 2356 or mwilson@cwh.org.uk.
