CityWest Homes’ resident nominated for tenant of the year in TPAS awards
The fantastic community work of Sue Walsh a Pimlico tenant has been formally recognised this week after she was shortlisted in the Tenant Participation Authority Service (TPAS) awards.
The TPAS awards recognise and celebrate tenants who go the extra mile and Sue is now one of ten left in the running for the ‘tenant of the year’ award.
CityWest Homes nominated Sue for all the great work she has carried out on the Churchill Gardens estate in Pimlico over the past year. Most notably successfully driving forward a number of positive changes to the local community centre, Churchill Hall, situated in the middle of the estate. These successes include securing significant funding in order to complete a total refurbishment of the hall, opening up spaces for local groups, creating a successful boxing club open to young men and women and working with local Muslim groups to allow access for Friday prayer sessions.
Sue Walsh said: “I am absolutely delighted to have been short listed for this award. I have enjoyed the support of a wonderful committee and this is validation for all the hard work we have done together over the last eighteen months. Definitely a turning point for Churchill Gardens."
Mark Hoyland, CityWest Homes chief executive said: “Sue is a true community hero, her tireless work and strong drive have been the backbone of the amazing transformation of the Churchill Gardens’ residents association and the local community hall. It has been nothing but a pleasure to work with her over the past year and I’m delighted that Sue has received this positive recognition, it is much deserved.
Alongside this, CityWest Homes’ have also been shortlisted in the ‘best practice in the community’ award for their significant contribution to the Westminster Works project. CityWest Homes involvement in this city-wide project has lead to finding permanent employment for over 80 Westminster residents, arranging over 60 work placements and organising 20 job fairs.
The winners of the awards will be announced on 6 May.
