Coffee and chat at Lillington

Lillington and Longmoore’s over 55’s were treated to a coffee morning with a difference as the estate team brought contractors and Westminster partners to the party.

More than 60 residents, aged between 55 and 75 years, descended on the special coffee morning to be introduced to CityWest Homes’ contractors Linbrook and T Brown, and Westminster partner organisations - Open Age, health trainers, and City Guardians. The morning was intended to help older residents in the area feel comfortable with the number of people working in and around their homes. It also gave them an opportunity to find out about local services available in the area.

CityWest Homes’ service improvement team were there too to talk through any service issues, and the Westminster Falls Prevention service discussed what types of adaptations could be installed in people’s homes to prevent falls.

It was a jolly morning with cupcakes, Bakewell tarts and lemon slices to go with the coffee and chat. Many who attended said they appreciated the opportunity to get together and socialise. One resident said: "This wonderful event makes me feel proud of being part of this great estate."

Meanwhile, another resident said: "It’s nice that we can converge once in a while in one particular place and enjoy each other’s company."

Contractors Linbrook and T Brown also found the morning useful and are eager to attend more events like it in future.

Many estates across the city hold coffee mornings for residents and Lillington and Longmoore wants to extend the opportunity to residents of all ages.

Housing manager Abdal Miah said: “We worked really hard to put it together and it’s been a great success. For the next one we will be inviting everyone in the estate, not just age specific. We’re also looking at theming the coffee mornings to Valentines Day, Easter and other holidays so kids can get involved too.”
