Green fingers get to work on London estate
A team of budding gardeners have been working together to spruce up the grounds of Westbourne Park estate.
Gardening charity Thrive has teamed up with Pinnacle PSG, service manager for CityWest Homes, to provide eight disabled trainees with a unique work placement. The trainees have worked tirelessly with Pinnacle PSG staff for the past three months to successfully complete a gardening management course.
Their tasks covered all aspects of gardening, from planting bulbs and shrubs to collecting leaves, cutting grass and using power tools such as blowers to maintain the estate. Thrive helps deliver these projects to improve the lives of disabled people through the therapeutic benefits of gardening. These courses also help to encourage a healthy and active lifestyle, improve mental health, promote team work and friendship and enhance employment opportunities.
Mario Goncalves, Pinnacle PSG manager, said: "Pinnacle PSG is always looking to employ locally, and is keen to support local community initiatives, so this project was right up our street. We are keen to support projects of this kind which maximises the potential for stronger, more sustainable communities."
