Local resident Sue Walsh scoops prize at the NFA Awards

CityWest Homes is proud to announce that local resident Sue Walsh, from Churchill Gardens estate, has won a national award by the National Federation of ALMOs (NFA). The winners of the 2011 NFA Awards were announced at a ceremony earlier this week at the Midland Hotel, Manchester. Representatives from the 19 short-listed Arms Length Management Organisations (ALMOs) across the country gathered for the award ceremony, part of the NFA’s annual two day conference and AGM.

On the night, Sue picked up the ‘Most Outstanding Resident’ award. Sue has worked hard to help transform an old community hall on the Churchill Gardens estate into a vibrant hub of the community. She has been an inspiration throughout the project, forming partnerships with many local groups in the community and helping to find them a central venue where they can meet and learn together.

“I was absolutely delighted to win this award and I didn’t expect it at all!” Sue commented. “This couldn’t have happened without the help of CityWest Homes, and I’d like to give special thanks on behalf of the Churchill Gardens residents association to Debbie Clancy and CityWest Homes for all their support. From here on we hope to continue working with our local community, pushing forward to make the hall the best we can for everyone.”

The Kier Building Maintenance 2011 NFA Awards, ‘Most Outstanding Resident’ category, celebrates the work of residents within their community. It recognises their commitment and efforts to help reducing crime in their local area, bringing about community cohesion and making a positive difference to their neighbours.

Alison Inman, Chair of the National Federation of ALMOs, said: “This has been a challenging year for the housing sector as we all try to understand the implications of a new government, changes to funding and welfare reform as well as the forthcoming abolition of both the Tenant Services Authority and the Audit Commission. Our members, their residents and staff continue to develop innovative services making their communities better places to live in.”

Mark Hoyland, CityWest Homes chief executive, commented on Sue’s fantastic achievement: “We are absolutely thrilled for Sue, she deserves this award. The NFA awards recognise and honour the hard work and achievements of ALMOs, as well as the individuals and teams who put so much effort into helping their local community. So it’s fantastic for Sue to be recognised in this way. She is a true champion of community spirit; and has shown what a difference an individual can make.”
