Local residents tuck in at the Big Lunch

Communities from across the UK were celebrating the Big Lunch recently- and CityWest Homes’ estates were no exception. Amongst them was the Lillington and Longmoore estate in Pimlico, who threw a picnic in the communal gardens. Everyone was invited and even the drizzly weather couldn’t put a damper on the party spirit.

The Big Lunch is a nationwide event, organised by the Eden Project, which is an educational charity which campaigns to help bring communities together through a variety of projects. The Big Lunch is just one of these projects, and every year it encourages people to get to know their neighbours over lunch. These can be anything from a small get together to a full blown street party- but the most important part is that everyone’s invited.

The day was a successful group effort, with local church St James the Less bringing helpers and cutlery, while CityWest Homes provided the tables and chairs. Residents from the wider community stopped by and everyone brought something to the table.

Jane Petrie, a pastoral assistant from St James the Less, helped organise the event. She said: “It's been a really enjoyable day. Everyone joined together as friends and neighbours over lunch, sharing all kinds of lovely food. We look forward to doing it again next year.”

A local resident enjoying the event said: “There was a lot of delicious food and plenty of nice people to chat to! It’s an opportunity to get to know your neighbours and we should definitely do this more often.”
