Residents’ Voice conferences begin in Westminster

More than 150 Westminster residents were treated to early Christmas cheer and took the chance to share their views with housing bosses at the first of CityWest Homes’ four resident conferences known as “Residents’ Voice”.

Offered hot soup and mulled wine, residents who turned up to the conference at St Paul's Church Centre in Marylebone could find out more about a range of services including adult education, repairs and leaseholder services. They could also meet their local representatives from the newly-formed area management committees, set up as a consultation link between residents and CityWest Homes, and local residents’ associations.

The conference had a strong eco-friendly focus with information available on recycling, solar panel energy, smart metering, and freebies including temperature gauges for the home.

A sample of a ‘positive input ventilation’ system – a device that can be installed in your loft or roof to draw condensation and moisture out of your home, drew a lot of interest. The system, on the market for about £400, filters unused heat within a roof and emits good quality air into a home.

The evening ended with a question and answer session using an interactive voting system, giving housing bosses a quick snapshot of residents’ key concerns.

Mark Hoyland, CityWest Homes’ chief executive said: “We’re delighted with how many people attended this conference. Events like this provide us with a great opportunity to talk directly with many residents and hear their views on our service.

“The valuable feedback we gathered from the 20 stalls and the interactive voting session will impact directly on the services we provide in this area.”

Gemma Bruce-Roberts, a resident of Wharncliffe Gardens estate in St John’s Wood, said: “The conference was very good. The voting buttons reminded me of X-Factor! I really like being able to meet face-to-face and found everything really interesting.”
