Volunteers give Mozart estate a fine-tune

The sunshine has got many of us out and about in our gardens and on the 10 May, residents on the Mozart estate had another reason to enjoy theirs. Several gardens belonging to elderly and disabled residents were earmarked for a revamp so volunteers from CityWest Homes teamed up to do some gardening. Planting new flowers and shrubs, the team worked hard to tidy nine gardens before the day was out.

Mrs. J. Dublin, one of the first residents to have her garden done, said: “The team have been so nice and polite. They’ve done a great job.”

The team were also joined by gardeners from the organisation Continental, who are responsible for landscaping larger areas of the estate. It was a big team effort and residents were pleased with the results.

Una Mayers, a local resident, commented: “I think they’ve done a nice job. Now that I’m not able-bodied I can’t do this myself so it’s great for them to help out!”

Fahema Akthar, local housing officer, said: “It’s nice to do this for the residents. It shows that we are actively participating in events. This one is for the elderly and disabled who just need a hand with their gardens, so we thought it would be a good idea to help them out. Residents have been so happy and pleased. They feel we’re reaching out to them. Events like these really help us get to know the residents, forming trust and showing that we care about them.”

The day was a great success and the team hope to run more in the future. Bringing their service to the doorstep really shows how the estate team are getting to know their residents- while lending a helping hand along the way.
