Lifts

Ask Natalia portrait image

What do I do if a lift breaks down?

More info
You must report this breakdown to the local estate team so they can raise an instruction to PDERS our lift contractors. Please provide as much information as possible to allow a quick and efficient response.

If I get trapped in a lift how can I escape?

More info
The first thing to do is stay put, and stay calm, you are not in any danger.
Locate the alarm push button (often shown as a bell picture) and press and hold the button. In some of the newer lifts this will connect you to the emergency link office who will call out the engineers for you.
If you have a mobile, and there is a number on show in the lift car, this will put you directly through to the same link office.
Please do not be worried, and please do not call the Fire Brigade, unless there are elderly persons trapped, or there are medical issues. The engineers will be treating this as a priority call and you may be removing the brigade watch from a life saving incident.

The announcing voice in the new lifts go really quiet at night, is this a fault?

More info
The voice annunciation is designed to go quieter over night, this is to cause the least disturbance possible to local residents, especially those who live close to the lifts.

What is the 'S' button in the lift for?

More info
This is a service button for the engineers or other contractors who may need to hold the doors open for a significant period of time. This button allows them to do this safely.

Can you make this lift any bigger, so I can move my larger pieces of furniture?

More info
Unfortunately the lift can only be made in proportion to the size of the lift shaft. We cannot make it any bigger than the space it runs up and down.

How can we stop lifts being vandalised?

More info
The only way we can prevent vandalism is if we are made aware of it. Please tell the estate teams about any problems.

Will the lift doors open without the lift being there?

More info
No. This cannot happen due to the safety systems in place.
