I have a secure tenancy

As a secure tenant, you have a tenancy agreement between you and the council.  It lets you know:

  • Your responsibilities as a tenant
  • Westminster City Council’s responsibilities as your landlord

It is important that you are aware of your tenancy conditions as it may affect your tenancy if you do not keep to them.  We want to help you to do this so get in touch if you have any questions.

Secure tenancies have no end date and you would normally have the right to stay in your home for as long as you want. However, these tenancies can sometimes be brought to an end by the landlord with a court order if, for example, you have not kept to the terms of the tenancy agreement.

If your tenancy started before September 2013 then you are most likely a secure tenant and will receive another secure tenancy if you move to a different council property

You will also be a secure tenancies if you are have moved into community supportive (sheltered) housing and you are aged 60 years and above.
