From 21 May 2018 CityWest Homes will be supporting Dementia Action Week, which aims to improve the lives of people affected by dementia.

Over the course of the week, we will be hosting drop-in sessions in each of our area estate offices. The sessions will offer signposting, advice and support to anyone who wishes to learn about:

• Support services in Westminster for households who are living with dementia
• Simple actions to take to help a person affected and their carer
• How to become a Dementia Friend
• Upcoming events for people affected and their carers across Westminster

The drop-in sessions are as follows:

Tuesday 22 May | South Area Service Centre, 137 Lupus Street SW1V 3HE | 10am – 2pm

Wednesday 23 May | Central Area Service Centre, 24 Lilestone Street NW8 8SR | 10am – 2pm

Thursday 24 May | West Area Service Centre, 155 Westbourne Terrace W2 6JX | 10am – 2pm

Friday 25 May | North Area Service Centre, 1 Glasgow House W9 1QY | 11am – 2pm

In the UK, one person develops dementia every three minutes, yet too many people living with the condition face it alone and feel excluded from society.

It is important that we not only understand dementia, but we also do all we can to ensure our homes and services are dementia friendly.

Over 80 members of our staff are registered as Dementia Friends and we will continue to encourage more people to register during Dementia Action Week.

We are also part of the Dementia Action Alliance which gives us access to 150 different organisations, who share best practice in taking action on dementia.

Alzheimer’s Society is leading a movement and with this year’s Dementia Action Week campaign they aim to create a change in communities by raising awareness, promoting innovative ways to cope with the condition and informing others about what they can do to help.

If you want to be part of this change, have concerns over a family member, friend or neighbour or you’re concerned about dementia yourself then please come along to the drop in sessions.
