From estates to offices: CityWest Homes recycles

This year marks the 15th year for Recycle Week, which is a celebration of recycling and how it benefits our environment.

The aim of the week, running from 24 – 30 September 2018, is to encourage people to recycle more, by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items from all around the home.

Westminster City Council runs an incentive scheme for people who recycle on their estate, called ‘In It To Win It’. The more you recycle the more prizes you win for your community. For further information about the ‘In it – To win it’ scheme, visit westminster.gov.uk/init-towinit (opens new window) and find out more in our recycling leaflet (opens new window).

CityWest Homes supports this council-led scheme by providing information about recycling facilities on our estates. Last year Churchill Gardens Estate won their second recycling reward and residents voted for the money to go towards a resident’s Christmas party which was organised by Churchill Gardens Residents Association.

So far 59 estates have taken part in the ‘In it – To win it’ recycling reward scheme and have now won a total of £61,500 in rewards to help their communities. This achievement reflects residents’ efforts to increase their recycling and put the right thing in the right bin.

CityWest Homes offers advice on recycling textiles, electrical items and books and in addition to a bulky waste collection service. More details can be found here.

In recent months we have also further promoted recycling in our service centres and offices. We have stopped ordering plastic items, such as spoons and water cups and we have encouraged staff to use coffee mugs and glasses.
