Hundreds of people have been helped into work thanks to an employment initiative run by CityWest Homes.

In 2017 alone, over 120 Westminster residents were helped into employment by CityWest Homes’ dedicated employment team, which provides support and advice to get people working.

Since its launch in 2009, the service has consistently exceeded its target of helping 100 jobseekers a year into work.

Those using the service have been able to secure employment across a range of different industries including healthcare, hospitality and retail.

Shala, a single parent of two, was helped by the team to land a position at high-street fashion retailer New Look.

Shala said:  “Monica in the employment team helped me revamp my CV and she gave me interview training sessions to build my confidence. Within a few weeks I had been offered two positions, one at New Look and one at Ralph Lauren and was able to choose the job that fitted with my family commitments. I would definitely recommend the service to anyone looking for work; it helped to make job hunting a fun and stress free process.”

Monica Hossain, employment advisor at CityWest Homes said “We pride ourselves in being able to offer a tailored service to help our clients find the right job that not only suits their skill sets and experience but also their circumstances. We can help you find work regardless of the barriers you may think that you have.”

As well being contacted directly by residents, housing advisors at CityWest Homes have identified and referred a number of tenants to the service through tenancy reviews.

Jonathan Cowie, chief executive of CityWest Homes said: “As Westminster’s leading housing provider it is important that we support our residents to give them better life opportunities. The continued success of our employment service not only supports our residents in this way but helps to promote healthy, safe and economically active communities in Westminster.”

Alongside its employment service, CityWest Homes also has a number of apprenticeship opportunities available for Westminster residents through its new repairs and maintenance contracts, across industries such as plumbing, carpentry, gas and electrical engineering.

CityWest Homes’ employment programme is part of Westminster City Council’s employment service helping to provide opportunities for all of Westminster’s residents.
