A series of action days to improve communal areas on housing estates are taking place in Westminster and residents are being invited to attend.

A team of workers visited estates and carried out repairs such as sorting out health and safety trip hazards, replacing paving stones to repairing railings. Carrying out repairs in bulk like this provides future cost savings to residents, as well as good management of estates.

Residents are invited to come along and will be able to point out any problems on their estates for the teams to fix.

The first Action Day took place in November and four more will run until the end of February. So far around 300 repairs and counting have been carried out by the CityWest Homes repairs team and the contractor Morgan Sindall.

The Action Days will continue to run through to February 2019. Hundreds more communal repairs will be carried out in this time, to address any health and safety hazards, as well as improve the look and feel of the estate.

Cllr Andrew Smith Westminster City Council Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “We are putting residents first and rolling out regular action days to really get on top of repairs on our estates.

“Our Action Days will save residents time, by fixing the issues before they need to report them.”

In order to identify the areas for work, estate walk throughs were held and residents were invited to take part. Members of housing and resident engagement teams also attended the events, to answer any questions from residents.

Bradley Green, Morgan Sindall Property Services pre-construction director, added: “We’re delighted to support the delivery of repairs via the estate Action Days. This approach will reduce repairs demand through proactive investment, which will make savings in the day to day maintenance costs.”

Other works planned through the Action Days include car park areas, paved walkways, play areas, boundaries, fencing, trees, foliage and planted areas, public furniture, lighting and drainage on the estate and areas where bins are stored.

The next Action Days will take place on the morning of the upcoming Open Door Days, where residents can discuss their housing queries face to face with members of Westminster City Council and CityWest Homes, on the following dates:

  • Thursday 24 January 2019, Action Day - Brunel estate. Open Door Day, 3-7pm, at Stowe Centre, 258 Harrow Road, W2 5ES
